When you first add an email account in Outlook 2007, the email program will collect your credentials, namely email address and password. Especially if you allow Outlook 2007 to remember the email account password, this saves you quite a lot of typing, since it will be able to automatically supply it behind the scenes to spare you from having to enter it manually every single time you need to send or receive email messages from Outlook 2007. The downside of course is that if you change email password with your provider, Outlook won't know about it, and you may receive error messages because of it. But as you'll see in this tutorial, changing your Outlook 2007 password only takes a minute.
How do I change my Outlook 2007 password?
Follow these simple steps to update your credentials and change your Outlook password:
- Once you have launched Outlook 2007, you may receive some notice that there we problems checking for new emails: this is normal, since your email account password has changed. Dismiss any error message if you see one, and get back to the main Outlook window.
- Then, click on the "Tools" menu and choose "Account Settings" to customize your accounts:
- Outlook 2007 will open the "Account Settings" dialog, which contains all email accounts you currently have setup inside the program. To customize one of these email accounts (like changing its password), double-click on it - alternatively, you can select it and then click on the "Next" button displayed at the bottom of the wizard window.
- In the next screen, called "Change E-mail Account", Outlook 2007 lets you customize user name, password, mail servers, and more: Under the last section on the left, you will see a "Logon Information" header, below which is a "Password" text field, where Outlook stores it.
- To change and edit your Outlook 2007 password, select it inside the text field, and start typing over it to replace it with the new password. Since you can't see what you are typing, make sure to avoid typos and that you are not typing the new password in all uppercase.
- If you want Outlook 2007 to automatically supply your email account password when needed (a very convenient option), ensure that the "Remember password" checkbox is checked.
- To accept the new email password and apply the change, click on "Next":
- The final screen will display "Congratulations": click "Finish" to return to Outlook 2007.
